Course: Basics of ICT (5403) Semester: Autumn, 2022
Level: BS/Associate Degree
ASSIGNMENT No. 1
Q.1 Internet is a well known example of ICT. How it enables people to communicate easily through different communication mediums? Describe it with the help of proper examples.
Introduction
The internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standard Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to serve billions of users worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of private, public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope, linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and optical networking technologies.
What is ICT?
There is no single answer to the question “what is ICT?” because it can mean different things depending on the context. Generally speaking, ICT stands for Information and Communications Technology, and refers to technologies that are used for communication and storing, retrieving, and manipulating information.
Some common examples of ICT include computers, the internet, software applications, phone systems, and data storage systems. ICT can be used for a wide variety of purposes, including communication, education, research, and entertainment.
The term “ICT” is often used interchangeably with “information technology” (IT), but there is a distinction between the two: IT refers specifically to the technologies used for storing, retrieving, and manipulating information, while ICT includes both IT and other communications technologies such as phones and email.
Q.2 a) Explain the important components of computer.
In order to understand how a computer works, you need to know about the important components that make up a computer. In this blog post, we will explain the important components of a computer and how they work together to make your computer work. The important components of a computer are the motherboard, CPU, RAM, hard drive, and power supply. The motherboard is the main circuit board in a computer and it houses the CPU, RAM, and other important components. The CPU is the brain of the computer and it handles all the calculations and processing. The RAM is where all the data is stored temporarily while the CPU is working on it. The hard drive is where all the data is stored permanently. The power supply provides power to all the components in the computer.
Definition of a computer
A computer is a programmable device that stores, retrieves, and processes data. The three basic components of a computer are the central processing unit (CPU), memory, and input/output (I/O) devices.
The CPU is the “brain” of the computer. It consists of one or more microprocessors that execute the instructions of a computer program. Memory is where data is stored for use by the CPU. Common types of memory include random access memory (RAM), read-only memory (ROM), and cache memory.
I/O devices allow a user to interact with a computer. Common I/O devices include keyboards, mice, monitors, printers, and scanners.
Q.3 a) discuss the purpose of Input devices.
Input devices are the devices that are used to send data or information into a computer. The most common input devices include the keyboard, mouse, and touchpad. However, there are many other types of input devices available, such as trackballs, scanners, digital cameras, and joysticks. The purpose of input devices is to allow users to interact with computers and provide them with the means to enter data or information. This data or information can be in the form of text, images, audio, or video. In order for computers to be able to understand this data or information, it must be in a format that they can process.
Definition of input device
An input device is any hardware component that allows a user to enter data and instructions into a computer. The most common input devices are the keyboard and mouse, but there are many other types of input devices, including trackballs, joysticks, touchpads, scanners, digital cameras, webcams, microphones, and game controllers.
Q.4 a) Write the names of software available on your computer.
Here is a list of software available on my computer: 1. Microsoft Word 2. Adobe Photoshop 3. Adobe Illustrator 4. Google Chrome 5. Mozilla Firefox
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word is a word processing program that is part of the Microsoft Office suite of productivity software. Word allows you to create documents, and perform other tasks such as spell checking, grammar checking, and adding images and charts.
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Excel is a software program that allows you to create and manage spreadsheets. With Excel, you can enter and manipulate data, perform calculations, and create charts and graphs. Excel also offers features that allow you to collaborate with others on yourspreadsheets.
Q.5 Write short notes on the following topics:
Data Communication
Data communication is the process of transmitting data from one point to another. It can be done through a variety of means, including telephone lines, computers, and radio waves. Data communication is an essential part of our modern world, as it allows us to communicate with each other and share information quickly and easily.
What is Data Communication?
In order to understand data communication, it is important to first understand what data is. Data can be defined as anything that can be converted into a digital format. This includes text, images, audio, and video. Once data has been converted into a digital format, it can be transmitted from one location to another via a variety of methods.
Data communication refers to the process of transmitting digital data from one location to another. There are many different ways to accomplish this, and the method used will often depend on the type of data being transmitted and the desired outcome. For example, if you wanted to send an email to someone, the data would be converted into a digital format and then transmitted over the internet using protocols such as SMTP or IMAP.
